Pyramid Panic Lesson Plan

Pyramid Panic Game:
This is a timed game using the arrow keys and space bar to collect an item of food from each of the food groups.
  • Collect healthy foods from each of the 5 food groups.
  • Avoid the fatty and sugary foods.
  • Touching a “bad” food will lose game time.
  • Answering a bonus questions correctly gains more points.
Using the arrow keys and the space bar, the students will move Chef Solus through the jungle to help him collect a food from each of the 5 food groups. Foods collected are shown in the left upper corner of game. 
Fatty and sugary foods will try to stop Chef Solus from getting to the healthy foods and creating a balanced meal. To advance to the next level, one of each of the food groups must be collected before the time runs out. The player starts with three hearts. These hearts are used when the time runs out before the Chef has collected the five food groups to create a balanced meal. Try to create a balanced meal and keep advancing to more challenging levels before all the hearts are used up or the game is over.

Teaching Tips:
Have the student review the Interactive Food Pyramid or My Plate.
  1. Have the students come up with their favorite foods and write them on a board.
  2. Have the students identify what foods are healthy and what foods are not good in excess.
  3. Guide the students to Pyramid Panic where they will attempt to find a food from each group while avoiding bad food choices.
Based on the students original group of favorite foods, have them split the foods in the their food groups. When they are left over with the unhealthy choices, have the students identify what healthy substitution they can make.
