Annual - Ongoing Grants

Building Healthy Communities
Is a 10-year, $1 billion program of The California Endowment. 14 communities across the state are taking action to make where they live healthier. They’re doing this by improving employment opportunities, education, housing, neighborhood safety, unhealthy environmental conditions, access to healthy foods and more.
 
Field Trip Grants Applications   Accepted between August 1 and September 30 every year
As part of the program, Target stores award Field Trip Grants to K-12 schools nationwide. Each grant is valued up to $700.
 
Finish Line Youth Foundation  (ongoing since May 2010)
The Legacy Grants will be awarded to qualifying organizations in need of improvements and/or renovations to existing buildings, grounds, and property or for new facilities and/or grounds. ($10,000-75,000 awards)
 
One of the biggest challenges many communities face in their efforts to prioritize play is fundraising. That's why KaBOOM! offers grant opportunities to help communities take bold steps towards beginning or completing playspace projects.
 
Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grants  Deadline: annually around early February
It's almost that easy when you take advantage of Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program. Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) knows how hard you work for your kids and your community and we're dedicated to helping your parent-teacher group achieve even more for your school. 
 
The Obesity Society is pleased to announce two Early-Career Research Grants for up to $25,000 each will be funded for the 2014 grant period. The program targets junior-level investigators and postdoctoral trainees by funding proposals that demonstrate a high likelihood of resulting in new and innovative approaches in obesity research.
 
Safe Places to Play Grants  Annually with Letter of Interest due in January, June and October
Grants support soccer programs and field-building initiatives in the U.S. that keep children in underserved communities active, healthy and safe.
 
Funding opportunity available through its Strategic Campaign Fund. 
 
USDA Announces Grants to Support State Breastfeeding Programs
Agriculture Under Secretary Kevin Concannon today announced the release of nearly $60 million in Fiscal Year 2014 funds to WIC agencies in states, territories, and Indian tribal organizations (ITO) in support of breastfeeding peer counselor programs in USDA’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

KEEN Footwear: KEEN Effect   Deadline:  Aug. 1, 2015
The KEEN Effect, an initiative of KEEN Footwear, provides support to nonprofit organizations who are dedicated to responsible outdoor participation in order to help preserve the places we all play.
 
Mazda Foundation Community Grants   Deadline: July 1, 2015
Through the Mazda Foundation, Mazda and its employees are working together to proactively help our neighbors - and the communities where we live and work - to build a better, brighter future.
 
Through our partners Kellogg Company, Kellogg Company 
Fund, and the Walmart Foundation, Action for Healthy Kids announces School Breakfast Grants 
for the 2015-2016 school year. Eligible schools may apply to pilot or expand their School 
Breakfast Programs, including alternative breakfast, or pilot universal school breakfast. Grants 
ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 are available.
 
State Farm Student Service Learning  Deadline: May 1, 2015
State Farm Youth Advisory Board National Grant Program funds student-led, service-learning projects in multiple areas, including health and wellness issues. Non-profit, Public K-12, and higher education institutions are eligible to apply. Grants from $25,000 to $100,000.
 
Library Mini Grants   Deadline: March. 31, 2015
 Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Mini grant awards $500 to public schools and libraries that foster creative expression, working together and interaction with a diverse community.
 
AASA has funding from the Walmart Foundation to support alternative school breakfast serving methods, including breakfast in the classroom and grab’n’go.
 
2015 Mantis Tiller Award   Deadline: March. 6, 2015

Mantis has provided the Mantis Awards to charitable and educational garden projects that enhance the quality of life in their host communities 

Smart from the Start Awards   Deadline: February 27, 2015
The Smart from the Start Awards are designed to encourage preschool teachers to create practical, long-term improvements in nutrition and physical activity at their preschool.
 
Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grants  Deadline: February 13, 2015

Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, GRO1000  Deadline: February 13, 2015
ScottsMiracle-Gro® is supporting the creation of more than 1,000 community gardens and green spaces.  Requires voting to win.
 
Champions for Healthy Kids Grants Deadline: January 23, 2015
$1 Million Champions for Healthy Kids grants available to nonprofit organizations for programs operating June 1, 2015-May 31, 2016.
 
BUILD Health Challenge   Deadline for round one applications, January 16th, 2015
The BUILD Health Challenge is a national award program designed to support community collaborations that are working to give everyone a fair chance to be healthy. Specifically, the BUILD Health Challenge will give two kinds of awards – planning and implementation awards
 

2014 Grants:

The Walmart Foundation Community Grants   Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
The Walmart Foundation supports programs and initiatives addressing hunger relief and healthy eating. Nonprofit organizations, K-12 schools, church or faith based organizations, and government entities are eligible to apply. 
 
Youth Garden Grants   Deadline: Dec. 5, 2014
Since 1982, National Gardening Association has provided the Youth Garden Grant to over 5,000 schools, nonprofits, and youth programs across the United States.  To be eligible for the 2015 Youth Garden Grant, your school or organization must plan to garden in 2014 with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18.
 
The purpose of this grant is to incorporate middle school classroom materials or lessons that actively engage students in tasks and experiences to deepen and connect their content knowledge. For 2015-2016, grants with a maximum of $3,000 each will be awarded to persons currently teaching mathematics in grades 6–8.
 
2014-2015 School Grants for Healthy Kids  Deadline: October 15, 2014
Action for Healthy Kids is pleased to release its School Grants for Healthy Kids opportunities for the 2014-2015 school year.  Around 1,000 schools will be awarded funds ranging from $500 to $5,000 to support school breakfast and physical activity programs. 
 
Big Ideas" Grants  Deadline, October 17th
Advocacy Advance will award $30,000 total—3 grants of $10,000 each—to organizations that are pushing forward on some of the most important areas of bicycling and walking advocacy.
 
Kids In Need Teacher Grants   Deadline: Sept. 30, 2014

Kids In Need Teacher Grants provide preK-12 educators with funding to provide innovative learning opportunities for students.

Captain Planet Foundation   Deadline: Sept., 30, 2014
Grants are intended to:  Provide hands-on environmental stewardship opportunities for youth;
Serve as a catalyst to getting environment-based education in schools;
Inspire youth and communities to participate in community service through environmental stewardship.
 
Green Thumb Challenge $500 Grant   Deadline: Sept. 30, 2014
Green Education Foundation and Gardener’s Supply Company are calling on schools and youth groups to submit chronicles of their garden projects in a race to win a $500 prize. The award is designed to support the continued sustainability of an exceptional youth garden.
 
Target Field Trip Grants  Deadline: Sept. 30, 2014
The purpose of the Target field trip grant program is to fund learning opportunities outside the classroom.
 
 Culture of Health Prize  (deadline, September 17, 2014)
The prize is awarded annually to honor outstanding community efforts and partnerships to communities working to build a Culture of Health. Up to 10 winning communities will each receive a $25,000 cash prize. 
 
Healthy Habits Small Grant Program  (deadline, September 8, 2014)
Identifies mechanisms of influence and/or promotes positive sustainable health behaviors in children and youth. Awards of up to $50,000 a year for two years will be available.
 
School Grants for Healthy Kids  (Deadline: Aug. 31, 2014)
Grants being offered for school breakfast program pilot and/or expansion to include alternative breakfast programs
 
Cities Combating Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meals (CHAMPs) Initiative (deadline, August 15th)
The YEF Institute invites cities to apply for grant awards of up to $50,000 to build the capacity of municipalities to raise awareness of and increase participation in the federal Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs through the Cities Combatting Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meals (CHAMPs) Initiative. 
 
GSK IMPACT GRANT Deadline:  July 31, 2014 (Philadelphia area)
GlaxoSmithKline and the Philadelphia Foundation have issued a call for applications for a $5 million, three year grant opportunity.  "The GSK IMPACT grant will support a network of nonprofit organizations working together to help disadvantaged youth live healthier lives and contribute to a healthier community.
 
State Farm Student Achievement Program  Deadline: June 6, 2014
The State Farm® Student Achievement Program supports teachers as they work with students to study and take action around a community issue and create learning through service. 
 
Annie's Grants for Gardens Deadline June 2, 2014
Annie's offers Grants for Gardens donations to schools and other educational programs that help build school gardens. Since 2008, we've helped fund to more than 270 gardens, because we believe that gardens help connect kids to real food.
 
ING Run For Something Better School Award   Deadline 11:59pm:, May 15, 2014
The awards program will provide sixty (60) grants of $3,500 to elementary and middle schools nationwide who wish to establish a school-based running program or expand an existing one.
 
2014-2015 School Grants for Healthy Kids   May 2, 2014 – Applications Due (No Deadline Extensions Accepted) 
Around 1,000 schools will be awarded funds ranging from $500 to $5,000 to support school breakfast and physical activity programs. Funded schools will also receive expertise and people power to help implement a successful project that leads to sustainable change. 
 
ING Unsung Heroes Awards Program    Apply by April 30, 2014
Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class projects. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000.
 
Team Nutrition 2014 Training Grants  Deadline April 4, 2014
The purpose of this grant is for State agencies to expand and enhance their training programs that incorporate and implement the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and USDA Foods in meals served under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). States must apply Team Nutrition’s three behavior-focused strategies in their proposals.
 
The Health Impact Project  Deadline, April 2 2014
A collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and The Pew Charitable Trusts, has announced a call for proposals to fund fund health impact assessments (HIA) and the establishment of sustainable, self-supporting HIA programs to more routinely integrate health into public policy decision-making."
