As we get ready for national Farmers Week, I wanted to start out by promoting the importance of food gardens. Sometimes, things really do start in our own backyard! My brother-in-law, Vinnie, (Vinnie the farmer-I call him) has been growing a vegetable garden for a few years now in his backyard.
it started out simple, just a few plants and has grown to this walk in area that has zucchinis and peas and tomatoes and lots more veggies. It's pretty impressive and the baby vegetables really look so cute.
My mom has her own little vegetable garden going with potatoes, cherry tomatoes and roccoto peppers and more. She is a farm girl at heart, born in the mountains of Peru and has always had a special green thumb.
I, the city girl, born and raised in SF, never thought I would start my own garden. But I am. I am starting with one plant, a lemon tree and going to be building from there. It is a branch off my mom's tree that is finally growing some roots.
I have to say, the vegetables from a home grown garden taste so much better than from the grocery store. My kids who don't like certain vegetables will eat the ones that come from my mother's garden.
No matter how big or small your space is, there is always room for one fruit or vegetable plant.
enough said, I will let the picture do the 1000 words!
Nourish Thought for the Day:
Sometimes the best things in life are right in our own backyard.
