Safety Considerations

Safety is always important when it comes to physical activities and your child.

Here are some guidelines to promote a safe experience:

  • Ensure there is proper adult supervision
  • Provide your child with the adequate and appropriate space for activities they enjoy.  For example, skateboarding in a skateboarding park rather than in the street.
  • Review safety rules with children.  For example, when swimming at the pool, there is usually posted safety rules.  Review each of them with your child.
  • Check equipment prior to your child using it.  For example, make sure the bikes are working properly.
  • Make sure your child wears the proper safety gear. For example, a helmet for bike riding, skateboarding or rolling skating. Study after study will show that helmets save lives!
  • Apply sunscreen on your child when he or she is playing outside
  • Ensure your child has hydration.  Bring water to drink even if your child is playing in water.
  • If your child is in an organized sport, ask the coach what kind of safety equipment your child may need during the season.
