Toffee Bars

 
A tasty dessert that will be enjoyed by the whole family
 

Ingredients

 
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese (1/4 cup)
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons toffee candy (Heath), finely chopped
 

Directions

 
Adults: Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Together: Coat an 8-x-8-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
Kids: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt, and set aside
Together: Using a standing or handheld mixer on low speed, cream the butter, cream cheese, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth.
Kids: Add egg and vanilla, and beat until well incorporated.
Kids: Add the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
Together: Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and sprinkle the toffee candy over the batter.
Adults: Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Adults: Let cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. When cool, cut into bars and serve.
