This is low sugar homemade cranberry sauce recipe, using fresh cranberries and naturally sweetened with orange juice and apples.
Directions
Together: Measure water and orange juice and put in saucepan.
Adults: Wash, peel and chop apples (into small chunks)
Kids: Wash the cranberries and add cranberries to saucepan.
Adults: Cook with lid over medium low heat, stirring every minute for about 10 minutes- watch closely for cranberries to pop, when this happens add in the apples and the Golden raisins.
Adults: Then reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes.
Adults: Remove from the heat. Squash with fork and stir, let cool, place in covered bowl, store in fridge for 6 hours or overnight and enjoy!
Adults: Optional recipe tips- in addition to the above recipe you can try adding one of these ingredients:
Add a dash of Clove spice
Add 1/4 cup minced crystallized ginger
Add 1/8 cup ground walnuts
For sweeter sauce add 1/4 cup sugar to saucepan mixture
For some extra zing add a bit of grated orange rind
Kids: For a fun and easy dessert serve slightly warm cranberry sauce over Vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt, top with a dash of ground walnuts!
