Easter Egg Fun -Happy Safe Hunting

Are you getting ready for Easter egg fun by coloring eggs with the kids.
Here are some quick tips for a egg-stra safe Easter day using these food safety tips:

Always wash your hands with warm water and soap before and after coloring eggs. Teach the kids to sing their abc's while washing their hands (a scrubbing for 20 seconds will remove most of the germs)

Keep your eggs in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook them.

If any of the eggs are cracked or dirty, throw them out.

Once you have hard cooked the eggs, dye them with food-safe coloring. It should say "food safe" on the box or carton of dye.

When you are done coloring eggs, put the in the refrigerator. Bacteria can begin at room temperature in about 2 hours. So get those eggs back in the refrigerator before they have been out for 2 hours.

Choose clean places to hide your eggs. Look for places that pets can't get to.

Plan your Easter Egg hunt so that it is completed before 2 hours. Remember, bacteria begins to grow around 2 hours.

If children do not want to eat their eggs right away, wash them and store them in the refrigerator. You can have some baggies ready so keep each child's collection of eggs separated in the refrigerator.

Eggs should be eaten within one week or thrown out.
