Hispanic people overall are 66% more likely than non-Hispanic whites to have diabetes and tend to develop it at younger ages.

What are the symptoms and what steps you can take to reduce the risks of you family members developing Diabetes?

CDC data suggest that 79 million Americans - 35 percent of the U.S. adult population - have prediabetes, meaning they are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, the largely preventable form of the disease.

People with prediabetes, however, have an opportunity to significantly reduce their chances of developing this lifelong illness.  Engaging in exercise and losing just 5 percent of weight can reduce the risk of developing diabetes or heart attack risk by 58 percent. Read more Fox New Latino

Symptoms of Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes

  • Frequent urination
  • Unusual thirst
  • Extreme hunger
  • Unusual weight loss
  • Extreme fatigue and Irritability

Type 2 Diabetes*

  • Any of the type 1 symptoms
  • Frequent infections
  • Blurred vision
  • Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal
  • Tingling/numbness in the hands/feet
  • Recurring skin, gum, or bladder infections
