It is national childhood obesity month and Healthier Kids, Brighter Futures is hosting an award for organizations that promote "PLAY (promoting lively, active youth) amongst children.

The PLAY (Promoting Lively, Active Youth) Award will honor an innovative organization that hosts an event held in the U.S. during National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Aspiring to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity in their community, the winning event should encourage children to adopt healthy behaviors – such as regular physical activity and a healthy diet – in a unique and effective way.
► Organizing a new walking group where local moms and their children can enjoy both social interaction and exercise.
► Coordinating a bicycle safety fair where children get fitted for helmets and learn how to stay safe on a bicycle.
► The possibilities are endless!
The 2011 PLAY Award winner will receive a commemorative plaque and recognition in COAM materials. The winning event will also receive recognition in ACSM’s Sports Medicine Bulletin e-newsletter, which is sent weekly to more than 21,000 members.
All events added to the COAM event calendar will be automatically entered to win. Events must be held between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, 2011 in the U.S. A team of COAM partners and childhood obesity awareness advocates will select the winner, and the winner will be notified via email by Friday, Oct. 28.
