Halloween Treats- too much sugar!

According to the US Census Bureau, the Average American eats 25 pounds of candy every year with a large portion of that eaten during Halloween time.

If your child eats 12 treats that is about equal to 30 packets of sugar. Now, who would give their child 30 packets of sugar. It adds up quickly, all that sugar hidden in a small piece of candy.

Approximately 2 teaspoons of sugar in each:

  • Goobers
  • Twix
  • Almond Joy
  • Approximately 2.5 teaspoons of sugar in each:
  • Snickers
  • Reese’s peanut butter cup
  • Raisenettes
  • Kit Kat
  • Nestles Butterfinger
  • Tropical Dots
Approximately 2.75 teaspoons of sugar in each:
  • 3 Musketeers
  • 100 Grand
Approximately 3 teaspoons of sugar in each:
  • Milky Way
  • O’Henry
  • Junior Mints

Having a healthy halloween is great. Kids loved that celebration a lot and I am sure that they're gonna enjoy. Aside from the fact that it's nutritious, it's a great time to spend with your kids.

Even though the official National Green Halloween Costume Swap Day has past I believe there are still some people having events. Check the website to see if there is one near you. If not, it's still a good resource for ideas from snacks to costumes - www.GreenHalloween.org. You can probably also have a private party of friends and neighbors get together to costume swap items. Treat Alternatives. Check out Yummy Earth suckers or have a fun day with the kids making small give away items. I picked up a bunch of small shells from the beach and after cleaning them I decorated with. Each one only took a minute or two and they're cute.
