Don't be fooled this April at the grocery store

Posted on Apr 01, 2015 by Maggie LaBarbera

With big marketing budgets, food manufacturers can really come up with some clever ways to promote their foods.  Sometimes they can even make you think it is healthy or good for you without actually saying it.

They use clever words, colors, characters and visual placements to get you to notice and choose their foods.

Walk down the grocery store aisle and see what foods catch your eyes first.  Food manufacturers pay to have their foods placed at eye level or at the end caps so you will be more likely to pick their food product.

So let's not be fooled by their clever marketing and get lured into buying something that we really did not want.

  • Make a shopping list and stick to it.
  • Compare food labels to choose the healthiest product.
  • Avoid the foods on the end, they are usually processed foods
  • Start with the colorful produce section.
  • Look for cereal with less than 10 grams of sugar and at least 4 grams of fiber

Join Chef Solus and the explorers as they venture through a grocery store.  It might be scarier than you think!
