Red Dress Day Reminds Us To FIght Heart Disease In Women

Posted on Feb 06, 2015 by Maggie LaBarbera

February 6 was national Wear Red Day.

I know I focus on children's health but today I want to focus on moms.  A healthy mom is poised to help their child be healthy.

Red is the color of our heart.  It is associated with power and confidence.  It is the color that represents the fight against heart disease in women.

Heart disease and stroke kill 1 in 3 women.  And what is more shocking is that 80% of it is preventable.

The risk factors are:

  • smoking
  • high blood pressure
  • high blood cholesterol
  • obesity
  • physical inactivity
  • diabetes
  • stress and depression
  • alcohol
  • sleep apnea

Here is a great resource that covers the risk factors along with ways to change your lifestyle.

Nourish Thought for the Day:

Many people breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women. It's not. Heart disease is.
