The benefit of a smile goes a mile

Posted on Jan 23, 2015 by Maggie LaBarbera

The value of a smile to our health can not be underestimated.  So teach kids to smile.  Children smile naturally.  But as we get older, with the responsibilities of home and work, we may find that we are smiling less and less.

I remember looking and some photos and thinking, "gosh, I don't look good".  Then my daughter said, "Well, mom! You aren't smiling" I realized she was right.  So now I make a point to smile because you do look better and you actually feel better.  Smiling can be contagious and this is one thing we do want to spread!

Did you know:

  • smiling reduces stress - and we know how bad stress is for your body
  • smiling is great for our heart, it reduces our heart rate
  • Children smile 400 times a day while adults only smile 20 times a day.
