I hope everyone had a joyous and very merry Christmas. Family time, food, gifts, singing and dancing, games are all part of a special holiday season.
I know I ate one too many Peruvian tamales. So today I am focused on getting some extra workouts in. It got me thinking to what are some of the best activities that families can do together to burn off those extra calories.
Here is what I found:
1. rollerskating or inline skating: great fun. You can go to a local skating rink or if your weather permits, go to the local schoolyard. many parks also have nicely paved walking tracks that you can skate on. Even the little ones can rollerskate!
depending on your intensity, you can burn up to 425 calories in 30 minutes
2. play tag: you won't realize how much exercise you get from short bursts of running.
depending on your intensity, you can burn up to 250 calories in 30 minutes
3. Relay races: get the kids running with family races. You can make them obstacle courses, uses sacks for jumping races or keep it simple and measure distance and time.
depending on your intensity, you can burn up to 374 calories in 30 minutes
4. jump rope: you can jump rope individually or take turns jumping into a big jump rope turned by 2 people. Kids may surprise you and want to double dutch jump! Ask them to share some of their favorite jumping songs.
depending on your intensity, you can burn up to 340 calories in 30 minutes
depending on your intensity, you can burn up to 300 calories in 30 minutes
6. tennis: do you ever notice that tennis players are always thin. The stop and go intensity helps to burn more calories. You can play singles or doubles. Fun for the whole family. Tennis anyone!
depending on your intensity, you can burn up to 272 calories in 30 minutes
Nourish Thought for the Day:
Active time as a family is great way to teach children the importance of daily exercise.
