Food brings people together!

Posted on Dec 10, 2014 by Maggie LaBarbera

Since I am in the movie mode, I also wanted to share with another great movie that I thoroughly enjoyed, "The 100 foot journey".

Now this won't be a spoiler for you because I won't go into details about the movie itself.  But I will talk about the message that rang so loud and wonderfully clear throughout the movie.  "Food brings people together".

This is so true.  Who doesn't have special memories that are associated with foods. Maybe it was a special time you spent cooking with your parent or grandparent or other family member.  The time they spent not only teaching you how to cook but the importance of creating something meaningful that would bring the family together, mealtime.

Or maybe it was the time you spent grocery shopping with a special person learning about the foods used for some of the favorite special meals that are cooked during family events.

It could be as simple as a shared meal that you routinely ate with certain people.  When I think about it, I have plenty.

When I think of my mom, I remember how special Sunday breakfast was for us.  Every Sunday after church, we enjoyed a big breakfast.  It was something I looked forward to.  It became a tradition, a simple, yet joyous event.

I could go on but we all have special foods or meals that bring us back to a special place with special people.

Take the time to enjoy those special food or meal moments with your children and family.  You are creating their special memories and food associations.  You can help children learn about natural healthy foods that go into the foods you cook.  You can make a special day each week that is your family's special meal.

Whatever it is, know that you are shaping your children's food memories that will most likely be past on to their kids.

Holiday time is a particularly special time for foods, so bring kids into the kitchen and teach them about your family traditions and the joy of cooking and eating together as a family.

Nourish Thought for the Day:

If you are having a sweet craving, satisfy it with naturally sweet foods like strawberries, peaches or a handful of raisins.
