Bring kids into nature and improve their overall health

This weekend, I am going camping with my family.  We will be enjoying the great outdoors, as they say.  Yes, I will be sleeping in a tent but with a comfy air mattress under my sleeping bag. ;-)

I can't explain it but I have an overwhelming feeling of calm, peace and just plain old happiness when I go camping.  Something about being in nature and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday.

I thought about this and wondered about the benefits for children.  I found this great summary infographic that lists the wonderful benefits of bringing kids into the nature.

Some quick facts:
  • exposure to nature can reduce stress in children by as much as 28%
  • children who spend time outdoors are less likely to be overweight
  • outdoor exercise improves mental and physical well being
