National Dairy Month - Milk Does A Body Good
Posted on Jun 09, 2014 by Maggie LaBarbera
June is national Dairy Month!
Dairy is an important food group because of the high amounts of calcium, vitamin D and potassium it contains. These are important nutrients for building strong bones and teeth. These are also important in maintaining healthy bones.
One cup of milk provides your body with
-
26% riboflavin
-
25% vitamin D
-
25% vitamin B-12
-
16% potassium
If you can not drink or eat dairy because of dairy allergies or lactose intolerance, there are other foods that you can substitute that are high in calcium and vitamin D. Many dairy alternatives like soy milk, almond milk and cereals are fortified with these nutrients.
Nourish Thought for the Day:
Choose 1% lowfat or nonfat milk or milk products to keep your bones and teeth strong.
