Skip the resolutions and try one healthy choice each day

It is the middle of the month and with busy lives, perhaps you never got around to setting healthy goals with your child.

Perhaps setting goals is not your thing.  Here is another way to make healthier choices part of your family's routine.  Try doing one small simple healthy thing each day.

You may be surprised to learn that even the simplest of changes can make a difference in your long term health, your child's health.

Print our cute, healthy daily tips calendar and put it on the fridge.  It can be a fun family challenge to try to do that one tip each day!  There are lots of ways to promote healthy choices!  Find what works best for your and your family and make a commitment to do it.  And keep it fun!

start simple and small:  here are some ideas

IF YOU NORMALLY...     >    THEN TRY THIS INSTEAD!

  • use whole or 2% milk  >   use fat-free milk
  • drink soda   >   drink 100% juice, or water
  • eat dessert   >    eat fruit for dessert
  • have second helpings    >    put the food away as soon as you serve
  • eat big portions    >    eat off a smaller plate
  • eat a lot of white bread or pasta   >    go for a variety of whole-grain foods
  • use butter    >      try vegetable oils
  • eat fast food on the road     >   chill-pack fruits and vegetables for car rides
  • eat red meat   >    extra-lean ground beef, turkey, or chicken
  • snack on chips and junk food   >   keep fruits and veggies in the fridge instead
  • skip breakfast   >    try eating a healthy breakfast each day
  • fry your food   >    bake, broil, grill or roast your food instead
